For September & October, Kid’s Quest is partnering with Samaritan’s Purse to participate in Operation Christmas Child. Samaritan’s Purse is a non-denominational evangelical Christian organization providing spiritual and physical aid to hurting people around the world. Operation Christmas Child brings joy and hope to children in desperate situations around the world through gift-filled shoe boxes and the Good News of God’s love. Since 1993, more than 61 million shoe boxes have been packed, shipped, and delivered across the globe. People of all ages can be involved in this simple, hands-on missions project while focusing on the true meaning of Christmas—Jesus Christ. This is a great opportunity for your whole family to participate in a service project together.

  1. Find a shoe box and take the kids shopping to find items to fill it.  Click here for a video with instructions on how to make a box or click here to download and print instructions. Return to check-in stations on weekends by October 31.
  2. Take the kids shopping to purchase supplies to donate. We are collecting small toys, school supplies, toiletries – items that can fit in a shoe box – as well as gift wrap. We also need empty shoe boxes!  Click here for a video with suggested gift items and items we are not collecting. Drop off at check-in stations on weekends by October 31.
  3. Encourage your kids to give their offering at Kid’s Quest during September & October. Offering collected will go towards purchasing additional supplies and covering the cost of shipping boxes to their final destinations overseas. Each box costs $7 to ship. If your family makes a box, click here to learn how to follow where your box goes.
  4. Bring the family to Assembly Day on Saturday, November 6 at 10:00 am in Room 2400 to help pack boxes with the supplies collected the previous months.
  5. Pray for the children who receive our boxes.

Bob and Larry

Bob & Larry of Veggie Tales have made a movie about making their own box for Operation Christmas Child which we’ll be showing at Assembly Day on November 6

To get kids excited about our missions project, we’ll be conducting a “Where in Kid’s Quest is Bob & Larry?” contest. Each week, a large display of Bob & Larry will be hidden somewhere in Kid’s Quest. Kids who find them will pick up a business card with instructions on how to receive a special message and prize from Bob & Larry. The prize is meant to emphasize the enjoyment of receiving a gift and how kids can give that same joy to another child by participating in our missions project.

NOTE: This is a Start Where You Are Project, a Tysons Campus initiative to encourage our congregation to take advantage of opportunities to reach out to others with the Gospel message of Jesus Christ. You may not be able to hop on a plane to go on a missions trip overseas but you can start right where you are. You can start with this project right here.
