Sometimes it’s hard to know how to start in helping your kids grasp the full significance of who Jesus is. That’s why Kid’s Quest offers Starting Zone to equip parents in guiding their children towards starting and growing in a personal relationship with Jesus and taking steps towards baptism, a public declaration of their faith.
Starting Zone is a progression of steps to give parents the confidence and tools to be the primary spiritual leader at home, first in guiding their child to make a personal decision to start a relationship with Jesus Christ and second, in guiding them to express their faith publicly through baptism when they are mature enough to understand and articulate what the act symbolizes. No matter where your child is spiritually, we’ll give you a starting point.
Step 1 is participation in our Gospel Presentation which is Sunday Sept. 28 at 9:10 am or 12:35 pm in Room 1208 (1st Floor). Elementary-aged children and their parents attend together for a 45-minute presentation of John 3:16 that is interactive, engaging, and fun for you and your child. Following the class parents will receive materials to lead spiritual discussions at home about starting a personal relationship with Jesus and understanding baptism.
We recommend that children be 7 years old & up but you can bring them whenever you feel they’re ready and you can repeat the Gospel Presentation as many times as you like to help solidify your child’s growing faith. This presentation is required for any child who wants to be baptized at MBC. It’s free but please register in advance so we can make sure we have enough materials for all participants. For more info or to register go to mbctysons.org/startingzone.
Our current missions project is partnering once again with Samaritan’s Purse to support Operation Christmas Child.
For the month of September we are collecting toiletries and personal items. Our specific needs are toothbrushes, soap bars, combs, socks, flip flops and sunglasses but all shoebox-sized items are welcome, including schools supplies which we started collecting in August. Please no liquids, lotions, vitamins, medications, aerosol cans, or used toiletries. Bring your donations to the big boxes at Kid’s Quest check-in stations and talk to your kids about how God will use these gifts to spread the Gospel message all over the world. And be sure to save Saturday, Nov. 8, 10:00 am – 12:00 pm, on your family calendar to join us for Assembly Day where we’ll pack the gift boxes!
Some of you keen-eyed people may have noticed that there were 2 school supply collections running simultaneously this month! Kid’s Quest has been collecting school supplies to send to kids in need around the world while Dale Sutherland shared with the congregation a school supply collection to send to kids in need in local schools. Thankfully we serve a great big God who can provide for both and we feel blessed to be able to share the resources and Gospel message with kids both locally and around the world!
Local Outreach is finished with their collection but Kid’s Quest will continue to collect school supplies for Operation Christmas Child through the end of August. We specifically need pencil sharpeners, pens, crayons and markers but all shoebox-sized items are welcome, including gently used, unbroken school supplies.
Operation Christmas Child brings joy and hope to children in desperate situations through gift-filled shoe boxes and the Good News of God’s love. Since 1993, more than 100 million boys and girls in over 130 countries have experienced God’s love through the power of these simple shoebox gifts. Samaritan’s Purse also works with local churches and ministry partners to deliver the gifts, share the Gospel, and provide follow-up discipleship classes. Often entire families and sometimes entire villages come to know Jesus personally.
If you’d like to contribute, drop off donations in the big school bus boxes found at Kid’s Quest check-in stations. While it’s often faster and easier to shop for supplies without your kids, we strongly recommend taking them with you or encouraging them to pay for items with their own money. Take advantage of a teachable moment to talk to your kids about giving offering gifts for God to use.
ARE YOU CRAFTY?
We have a large collection of random craft supplies that we’d like to turn into either craft kits or completed crafts to include in our shoe boxes but we need help from someone more crafty than us! If you can re a crafty person who could help us make the most of these supplies, please contact Romney Short at email@example.com to discuss.
