Appreciate Your Child’s Leaders? May 17, 2013
Posted by rshort in : 4-Events, 7-Volunteer , comments closed“Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed—not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence—continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you to will and to act according to his good purpose. Do everything without complaining or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a crooked and depraved generation, in which you shine like stars in the universe as you hold out the word of life—in order that I may boast on the day of Christ that I did not run or labor for nothing. But even if I am being poured out like a drink offering on the sacrifice and service coming from your faith, I am glad and rejoice with all of you. So you too should be glad and rejoice with me.” – Philippians 2:12-18
On Friday, May 31 we will honor our regular Kid’s Quest volunteers at our annual “Evening with the Stars” event to celebrate God’s goodness for another year in children’s ministry together. We are so grateful for God’s provision of these faithful servants to serve families and support our ministry each and every week. We would not have a children’s ministry without their service!
We encourage you to thank the people who serve regularly with your child or for your child with kind words and hand-made notes. If you’d like to show your appreciation, we are providing a reception at the event and would welcome any bite-sized appetizers or treats (ex. chicken nuggets, meatballs, cheese & crackers, cut veggies, mini quiches, deviled eggs, brownie bites, mini muffins, cookies, etc.) or gift cards to Costco to help us purchase additional food and drink items. Food contributions can be dropped off in Room 1208 (first floor, off Smith Center lobby) on Friday, May 31, between 11:00 am – 4:00 pm or make alternative arrangements by contacting Jennifer Myers at Jennifer.myers@mcleanbible.org or 703-639-2000, x1989. Gift cards can be mailed to:
Kid’s Quest Tysons-Volunteer Celebration
P.O. Box 9300
McLean, VA 22102
or placed in an envelope labeled “Kid’s Quest Tysons-Volunteer Celebration” and given to the person at our Volunteer Central counter on the 2nd floor, off the MBC Café, during services.
A Baptism Story January 15, 2013
Posted by rshort in : 7-Volunteer , comments closedIt’s high time we brought you another new story in our What’s Your Story? YouTube series!
Everybody’s life tells a story. And, as Christians, our stories are not our own. We are part of God’s Big Story, to tell a tale of restoration and redemption through Jesus Christ. If you’re not already watching our video series, we invite you to start Kid’s Quest volunteers share how God is at work in their lives. What’s your story?
Today’s video story is very timely because it’s a baptism story. On Saturday, Feb. 9 we have 20 boys and girls who will be publicly declaring their faith in Jesus at our upcoming Kid’s Quest Baptism. We are so honored to share in this special moment with these children! We invite you, too, to share in their story. Join our Baptism Team to celebrate what God is doing in their lives and to help make this a memorable miletsone event for these children. We feel confident in saying that this event will be memorable for you, too. When you see these children, so full of joy and so ready to share their love for Jesus with others, you can’t help but leave encouraged and inspired. If interested, learn more and sign up on our Baptism Team webpage: mbctysons.org/kqbaptism. Our greatest need right now if for set up and decorating helpers.

Christmas Casting Call November 6, 2012
Posted by rshort in : 1-Hot News, 7-Volunteer , comments closedWould your child like to use his or her creative talents to lead families in worshipping God and celebrating Jesus’ birth on Christmas Eve? We are conducting an open casting call for youth aged 8 to 18 years for various roles in Family Christmas Eve services which will be Monday, Dec. 24 at 3:00 pm and 4:30 pm. We are specifically looking for singers, actors, dancers, gymnasts, and jugglers to take part in the services, a live nativity scene in the lobby, and video and audio recordings to be used in the production.
Auditions are Friday, Nov. 16, 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm and Saturday, Nov. 17, 9: 30 am – 3:30 pm. Advance sign up for an audition appointment is required. Review the information below and contact Stephanie Quick at 703-770-2931 or stephanie.quick@mcleanbible.org to schedule an appointment.
Audition appointments are first come, first served. If appointments fill up, we will do our best to expand the auditions to accomodate all who wish to be seen. This will only be available if all original appointments are filled first.
Parts Available:
- 15 Soloist & Ensemble singers: Ensemble singers do not need to be experienced or of soloist quality. We are looking for children who can carry a tune and sing with a choir. Some children will sing live and some will sing for a recording that will be used in the service.
- 20-30 Actors: dramatically present Luke 2, play a role in the Pastor’s message, and participate in a live nativity scene in the main lobby.
- 3-5 Experienced Ballet Dancers: part of the Luke 2 presentation.
- 3 Gymnasts
- 2 Jugglers
Requirements:
- Singers should visit mbctysons.org/kqaudtion to download the music and lyrics to prepare. Singers will sing the 3 songs acapella in the audition.
- Actors should visit mbctysons.org/kqaudition to download the script for Luke 2 and be prepared to “act it” as if you’re telling an exciting story that just happened to you in the audition. It is not necessary to memorize the script.
- Ballet Dancers will learn a combination at the audition. Come dressed in clothes you can move in and ballet slippers. Leotards and tights are not necessary.
- Gymnasts should be prepared to demonstrate one of the following: walking on your hands for an extended period of time or an aerial.
- Jugglers should bring something to juggle and be prepared to show us your skills.
- Everyone will be asked to sing “Happy Birthday” and read the Luke 2 narration piece. We want to see how expressive you are and how well you take direction.
Watch last year’s Luke 2 dramatization to get a sense of what to expect for this year’s production.
We are also looking for people interested in helping the behind the scenes production: props, costumes, sets, etc. If interested, contact Stephanie Quick at 703-770-2931 or stephanie.quick@mcleanbible.org.
Celebrating God’s Work in Kid’s Quest October 12, 2012
Posted by rshort in : 7-Volunteer , comments closedA few weekends ago we had a wonderful opportunity during main services to highlight the awesome work that God is doing in the lives of the kids and families that are a part of Kid’s Quest, and invite others to join us as volunteers.
At every service we had many of our elementary kids, and some of their parents, too, greeting at the doors as everyone entered.
Kids also passed out bulletins and assisted with collecting offering. Here is what one parent shared with about their experience: ”I wanted to let you know that my children had a great time on Sunday. My youngest, Cliff said, ‘can we do this for 4 weeks in a row? Or every week.’ I explained to him I would be helping with the offering. Five minutes later he said, ‘we are getting paid for this!’ I cracked up! Anyway – I thought it went very well. A fun family way to serve together and have fun too!”
Our KIDstuff KIDteam was present to lead worship and Lon interviewed a Kid’s Quest volunteer about the impact serving has had on his family.
There was also a touching drama that told the story of how one child came to Christ through the love and support of many Kid’s Quest volunteers contributing to her faith story over the years and the legacy of faith they left for her to continue. That legacy is what it is all about. In Deuteronomy God calls us to impart, or impress, His teachings on children (Deut. 6:6-8), and at Kid’s Quest we want to invite others that are passionate about helping the next generation learn about God’s love and the gift of His son, Jesus Christ. Whether you like to organize, perform, play, hold babies, build relationships, greet, construct, craft, type, etc., there’s a place for you to serve God in Kid’s Quest! To learn more about serving with Kid’s Quest, contact Alessandra Prosper, Volunteer Services Manager, at alessandra.prosper@mcleanbible.org or 703-770-2902.
