The Greatest Gift December 15, 2008

Posted by rshort in : 2-What We're Teaching , comments closed

This month our focus in Elementary classes is on the virtue of Generosity which means making someone’s day by giving something away.  This past weekend, December 13/14, your children learned that God gave us the greatest gift when He gave us Jesus.  John 3:16-17 says, “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.  For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.”  God loves us so much that He gave us His Son, Jesus.  And if we believe in Him with our hearts, and ask Him to be our Savior, we will receive eternal life.  We will live with Him forever.  God loved, so God gave.  If we believe, we receive.  And that’s what Christmas is all about.

Please follow up at home by talking with your child about the salvation message they heard in Kid’s Quest.  Encourage your child to ask questions and go to the Bible for answers.  Pray for and with your child.  Encourage them to talk honestly with God.  Affirm and encourage your child as you see them take steps to follow Jesus in wisdom, faith, and friendship.

Want our help to have spiritual conversations with your child?

Hot News December 12, 2008

CHRISTMAS STOCKING STUFFER IDEA  – Give the gift of quality family time and teach children what really matters!  Family Times Virtue Packs include encouragement notecards for morning time, an audio drama for drive time, discussion starters for meal time, and Bible stories for bed time.  A new virtue avilable each month.  December’s virtue is Generosity: making someone’s day by giving something away and January’s virtue is Resourcefulness: using what you have to get the job done.  Available in THE BOOKstore at MBC for $10 each.  The virtues and theme verses are the same taught in Kid’s Quest every month but the packs do stand alone and can be given to any family interested in making the most of their everday moments together.  They are also not dated so past virtues can still be purchased and used in your home or given as gifts.  Hurry, limited supply!  INFO: Betsy Riggan, 703/770-2912 or betsy.riggan@mcleanbible.org.

PARENTS, WE NEED YOU — Our nursery is committed to providing loving care and attention for newborns to 36 months while parents receive encouragement and instruction in worship services.  We are also committed to child safety which means we have strict policies about our volunteer-to-child ratio and once we reach our safe limits, we close.  Right now, it’s not space that’s confining us and closing rooms.  It’s low parent volunteer turn out.  Our nursery is dependent on parents serving on a rotating basis and is required of all regularly attending parents with a child in Kid’s Quest.  We need 150 volunteers every Sunday.  Since September, an average of 1/3 of the parents assigned to serve didn’t show up – that’s 50 people each Sunday who didn’t show up which means approximately 150 little ones each Sunday who could not be served.  Two weekends ago that rate jumped to 1/2 that didn’t show.  It saddens us to think of the families that are turned away and may never return to MBC.  Parents, we need you.  You are performing a valuable service!  For those who keep their commitment faithfully, we thank you.  Your service is deeply appreciated by Pastor Lon Solomon, the Kid’s Quest staff, first time visitors, and the parent who has not had a break all week.  For those who have struggled to keep the commitment, we ask you to use the rotation list as outlined in the cover letter to find someone to swap with you for a date that is more convenient for you and to be in communication with our Nursery Staff so they can work with you.  INFO: Cynthia Kilbourne, 703/639-2000, x1022 or cynthia.kilbourne@mcleanbible.org.

MAKE ROOM FOR NEW TOYS — Expecting lots of new toys this Christmas?  How about clearing some of the clutter first?  Our Kindergarten-1st Grade classes need gently used toys appropriate for children ages 5-7 years old to replenish our activity stations.  Looking for items like cars & trains, board games, dress up dolls, etc.  Please no books, stuffed animals, or toys that feature characters, ex. Spongebob.  Also, please no broken toys or items missing pieces.  Drop donations on weekends at Kid’s Quest Volunteer Central on the 2nd floor, across from the MBC Cafe or Monday-Friday in the Kid’s Quest office on the 3rd floor.  INFO: Marcy Davis, 703/770-2910 or marcy.davis@mcleanbible.org.
