Awana Club August 28, 2009

Awana Club returns Sunday, September 27 and registration is open! But wait…perhaps you don’t know what Awana is and why you should consider making Sunday nights a family night! Click here to see a video about this amazing program for your children.
The 2009-2010 Awana Club at MBC runs September 27, 2009 to May 2, 2010, 5:00 – 6:45 pm on Sunday evenings. Awana is a program for youth 3 years old through 12th grade that focuses on learning God’s Word in a fun atmosphere. Each week, Awana provides consistent, positive teaching and training that stresses strong moral and spiritual values. Our clubbers learn about the reality of God and the truth of the Bible.
With over 600 children participating at the Tysons Campus Awana Club, there’s a lot going on! The evening is divided into three main parts:
Game Time engages children in fast-paced, wild and crazy games that really get them excited about being at Awana.
Handbook Time varies, depending on the age of your child. Children work through their respective handbooks, memorizing scripture, hiding it in their hearts, and earning awards for their work. For more details about each age group’s specific curriculum, click on the appropirate age group below:

Council Time is when children learn more about God, His Word, and living a life that pleases Him.
One of the great things about Awana is that the whole family can participate! Awana gives families a common ground to learn about God and to study His Word. As you help your children at home you won’t believe all the Bible verses you will learn along the way, too! There are also many tools for families found on the Awana website. And we encourage you to volunteer in Awana. Volunteering enables you to to be a part of what your children are learning, to model service to God, and to help other children deepen their understanding of God.
The cost for Awana is $50 per child for the school year. This covers the cost of curriculum, awards, and several special events. At less than $2 per week, this is a great deal! Click here for complete enrollment details. Or click here to download and print the Awana Club Enrollment Form now. Information and Enrollment Forms can also be found on the Kid’s Quest Information Walls in the Tysons Campus building. Classes do fill up, so register early!

This fall MBC will be launching a new website to better reflect our multi-campus nature. For us, that means transferring all our Kid’s Quest pages over to a new site. We figured this was the perfect time to ask for your opinion about the Kid’s Quest website so we can best serve your future online informational needs. Can you help us out by filling out our survey here? It only takes a few minutes! We appreciate your feedback.
P.S.
The Kid’s Quest at the Tysons Campus website will be moving to http://mcleanbibletysons.org/kidsquest once the new MBC site launches. This blog, however, will not change addresses.

Sports Camp Follow Up August 6, 2009

“Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me. In my Father’s house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.” John 14:1-3
What an amazing week we had at Sports Camp last week, July 27-31, with 92 elementary-aged children! Our camp theme was “The Great Comeback” based on John 14:1-3. Children learned that in sports, every great comeback has elements that make it an in exhilarating experience for everyone. And in life, God demonstrates He is a master of great comebacks and we can trust him in any situation. Each day we explored a new element of a great comeback:
Day 1: All great comebacks include a “go-to-person.” Just as sports teams have a “go-to-person” to help them win, our faith in God is trustworthy and God is always our “go-to-person.”
Day 2: All great comebacks include a desperate moment. In pressure moments sports leaders remain calm. In life, calmness comes through prayer.
Day 3: All great comebacks include a leader who knows it can happen. In sports, comeback leaders seem to have an inner confidence others don’t. In our lives, that confidence comes from an all-knowing God.
Day 4: All great comebacks include a reason to come back. The greatest comebacks in sports are done for others. In life’s greatest comeback, Jesus died for us.
Day 5: All great comebacks include a follow up performance. In sports, comeback leaders aren’t “one-hit-wonders.” They lead comebacks again and again. In Jesus’ follow up performance, He will come back to get us and our greatest comeback will last forever.
Family Follow Up Packet: If your child participated in Sports Camp, be sure to do your Family Follow-Up Packet which you received on the last day of camp. This packet includes meal time and bed time discussion questions and encouragement notes. If you enjoyed doing this packet with your child, consider picking up Family Times, a similar resource to help you have intentional, faith-building conversations with your children in an easy way. Each pack teaches a different virtue and includes meal time discussion questions, bed time stories, encouragement notes, and a CD with music, audio-drama, and parent’s message. During the school year, a new virtue comes out each month and we teach the same virtues in our weekend elementary classes to help you have an even bigger impact at home. Click here to learn more. Packs can be ordered online or are available for a discounted price of only $10 each in THE BOOKstore of MBC.
