Elementary’s Extreme Summer June 29, 2010
Posted by rshort in : 2-What We're Teaching , comments closedThis summer Elementary takes a break from virtues to bring your kids a summer series called “Extreme Sayings.” Join us for an awesome adventure to learn some extreme sayings that Jesus made in the Bible! We’ll meet co-anchors Craig and Natalie and stunt men Jimmie McGuire and Dan Gerous on the set of EXTN – the Extreme Teaching Network, as we will dig deeper into each of these sayings and what they mean. We will learn about loving, forgiving, having faith, establishing priorities, setting an example, showing humility, being peaceful, and acting maturely. This series will help your kids better understand these sayings and make personal applications of each one to their own lives.

July 10/11: Love Your Enemies
- Through the story of Joseph loving his brothers despite their intent to hurt him, kids will learn what it means to love others. Just as Joseph loved his brothers, we need to love everyone, even when it seems impossible.
July 17/18: Forgive Everyone
- Kids will hear the story of the servant who wouldn’t forgive a fellow servant of his debt, even after the king forgave all of his debts. They will see that we need to forgive others because Jesus has forgiven so much in us.
July 24/25: Let’s Move a Mountain
- When God told Noah to build a boat and gather two of each kind of animal, Noah had faith that God was up to something amazing. They will learn that having faith gives us hope and a purpose to do anything.
July 31/Aug 1: I Love Money
- A rich man asked Jesus what he needed to do to have eternal life. Jesus told him to sell everything he owned, give the money to the poor, and follow Him. Kids will hear the importance of making God the number one priority in their lives.
Aug 7/8: Pass the Salt
- Kids will hear the story of how Elijah, through God’s help, started a fire with water. Just as Elijah stood up for God, we too can set an example by doing the right thing and obeying God.
Aug 14/15: I Came In Last!
- By listening to the story of Jesus washing the feet of the disciples, kids will learn how to serve others. Through this act of service, Jesus showed them what is valuable to God. They can learn to show others the same respect and kindness.
Aug 21/22: Do Your Part
- King Saul was searching for David in order to hurt him. When he stopped to rest, David had the opportunity to hurt the king first, but instead he chose not to fight. Kids will learn that they too can be peaceful rather than hurtful toward others.
Aug 28/29: Just Be Perfect, That’s All
- When it was time for Abram and Lot to divide their land, Abram let Lot choose which part of the land he wanted. Through hearing this story, Kids will learn that they too can show maturity by thinking of God and others first, and then themselves.

Little Adventurers who are or will be 3 years old by Sept 30, 2010 through completed 4th graders move up to new classes on Promotion Weekend, July 10/11. Pick up Know Where To Go maps at check-in for all classroom locations.
If you need to update your family’s information in our records go to http://mbctysons.org/kqenroll and download the Family Update Card. Return these to a Greeter at check-in.
If MBC is your church home and you have not previously enrolled, go to http://mbctysons.org/kqenroll and click on the link for the online Family Enrollment Form. Not sure if you’re enrolled? You should have a key tag with your emergency LED number on it if you are already enrolled. The LED number is how we notify you during services of an emergency involving your child.
If you have any questions about enrollment, contact Julie Daniel at 703-770-2989 or julie.daniel@mcleanbible.org.

“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.”
Kid’s Quest Sports Camp
for kids completing Kindergarten-4th Grade
July 19-23 - 5:30 pm – 8:45 pm
Hopefully by now you’ve heard something about our upcoming Sports Camp. If not, visit our website at mbctysons.org/kqevents for complete details. We are currently at 2/3 our maximum capacity - so don’t wait to register! Scholarships are available for anyone who needs one – including your child’s friends.
Speaking of friends, did you know we’re giving away cool prizes to your children if their friends register for camp, too? That’s right! We believe camp is a fun and non-threatening venue for unbelieving friends to gain an understanding of who Jesus is and how He can become their forever friend. And we want to reward your child’s efforts to personally reach out to their friends.
-
If 1 friend registers*, your child will receive a sports wristband – these were a very popular item at camp last year!
-
If 2 friends register*, your child will receive a sports wristband and a Sports Camp CD of the worship music that will be sung at camp.
-
If 3 friends register*, your child will receive a sports wristband, a Sports CampWorship CD, a Kid’s Quest t-shirt, and a Family Times virtue pack.
*Tell friends to put your name in the “guest of ” box when they register!
We need meals! Our camp staff won’t have an opportunity to eat dinner till well after 9:00 pm each evening and their meals are not included in the cost of camp. We’re looking for volunteers to provide dinners so we can keep our team happy and well fed. Could you take one of the dates between July 19-23 to provide a meal? It doesn’t need to be a 9-course feast - could be as simple as chicken salad sandwiches you make or burrito wraps you pick up from Chipotle. If you could help in this way, contact Abigail Gustine at 703-639-2000, x1012 or Abigail.gustine@mcleanbible.org.
iServe in Kid’s Quest June 19, 2010

Last weekend we shared the following video with the congregation. It turned out to be one of my favorite videos we’ve ever made because it was so neat to hear all the stories behind why people felt called by God to serve in Kid’s Quest. It was challenging to narrow down so many great stories to just a few representatives but we hope we selected those who inspire you to consider serving in Kid’s Quest, too.
In Kid’s Quest we depend on God and people just like you to make an impact for Christ on the 2000 children who attend each weekend. Did you know that there are over 1000 volunteer positions in Kid’s Quest? However, only 628 of them are currently filled! So we’re praying for 400 more people to join our volunteer team and asking you to think about being one of the 400.
Even if you are already serving elsewhere at MBC, could you be a summer sub to give our regular volunteers a break? Serving is a wonderful way to grow your faith, help your child if they’re transitioning to a new age group, and/or give you insight into what happens in your child’s class. By the end of summer, we hope you will have your own iSERVE testimony to share with others!
If your summer is too busy, how about starting in the Fall? The first two weekends in September especially, 4/5 and 11/12 this year, are always a critical time period for us where extra help is needed. Let’s talk now and have you complete your application before the summer break starts so you’re all set to go in the fall.

A Special Place June 16, 2010

For June’s mission project we are continuing our support for Jill’s House, a therapy and respite center for children with special needs, currently under construction beside MBC Tysons. Not only is the exterior of the building starting to look more finished but the inside is coming along as well!

This is the new kitchen.

This is the art & activity room.

This is one of the murals in the lodging area.
It’s very exciting to watch the construction progress each week and to think about all the smiling faces we’ll soon be seeing once Jill’s House opens. To learn a little more about the families Jill’s House will impact, watch the following video.
