252 Basics returns to elementary classes in September. The virtue of the month is Perseverance and the phrase your kids will be hearing all month is “Stick it Out!” Our memory verse for the month comes from Isaiah 40:31, “Those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” Here’s the play-by-play for each week:
September 3/4:
- Bible Story: The Story of Gideon, Judges 6:1-16,7
- Bottom Line: When life gets hard, remember that God is with you through the hard stuff.
September 10/11:
- Bible Story: Pure Joy, James 1:2-4
- Bottom Line: When life gets hard, remember that God wants to grow you through hard stuff.
September 17/18:
- Bible Story: Hebrews 12:12-15
- Bottom Line: When life gets hard, remember that how you handle hard stuff can change how other people handle hard stuff.
Septermber 24/25:
- Bible Story: Jesus Perseveres, Hebrews 12:3-4
- Bottom Line: When life gets hard, remember that Jesus went through hard stuff.
Also back is CUE Box, a fun resource to help your family unpack the virtue of Perseverance at home with bedtime Bible stories, meal time discussion starters, activities, music, and a sitcom. Pick up the Perseverance CUE Box in The Bookstore.

Family Matters August 22, 2011

Summer is winding down and it’s time for kids to start thinking about going back to school! How about you? Could you use a little education yourself? Consider joining Family Matters, a Tysons community group for parents of young children. They meet Sundays, 9:00 am – 10:15 am in Community Room B (1st floor).
Family Matters is a place where parents can share their parenting experiences, ask each other questions, and learn from Teachers while enjoying a cup of coffee together. This is a great place to build supportive, Christ-centered friendships with other parents and be affirmed in your role as your child’s primary faith trainer. The group also participates in service projects and encourages use Kid’s Quest curriculum resources to build Christian character at home.

The new ministry year kicks off Sunday, September 11, with a new DVD series called “Sacred Parenting,” featuring author Gary Thomas. Parenting a child is an in-depth course on spiritual formation, expressly designed by God to shape your soul in ways you cannot imagine. What if one of God’s primary intentions for you as a parent isn’t about successfully raising perfect children, but about you becoming more holy? Sacred Parenting helps you look at parenting from a different perspective. In this video group study, Gary Thomas offers a roadmap to spiritual growth through the children that God has given you to parent. Sacred Parenting will help you learn how God can transform dirty diapers, a toddler’s tantrums, and a teenager’s silence in order to transform you into a person who reflects the image of Christ. No registration is required.

For your convenience we’ve added a new check-in station outside Room 2100, the 4th-5th Grade Activity Room, during Sunday services. We are so grateful for our Greeters who have made opening this station possible!
This location best serves families with 4th-5th Graders who first meet in Room 2100 for activity time as well as 2nd-3rd Graders who have missed activity time and are joining Large Group in Room 2400 (right next door to Room 2100) directly.
