Family Service Day October 28, 2011

What is the power of a simple gift? Can a shoe box really make a difference? Watch the moving story of Lejla Allison who received one of the very first Operation Christmas Child boxes during the Bosnian war and see how a simple gift-filled shoe box changed her life forever. It’s an incredible story that we shared with your kids in Kid’s Quest a few weeks ago.
For September-October’s missions project, we’ve been supporting Operation Christmas Child, a ministry of Samaritan’s Purse International Relief. Samaritan’s Purse is a nondenominational evangelical Christian organization providing spiritual and physical aid to hurting people around the world.
Operation Christmas Child brings joy and hope to children in desperate situations around the world through gift-filled shoe boxes and the Good News of God’s love. Since 1993, more than 61 million shoe boxes have been packed, shipped, and delivered across the globe. However, while 61 million sounds like a lot, this represents just 1% of the total population of children in the world. The shoe box is a one-time gift as new children are selected each year to receive this gift.
FAMILY SERVICE DAY – Make Saturday, November 5, a family service day! Join us for Operation Christmas Child Assembly Day, 10:00 am – 12: 00 pm in Room 1207,as we fill the empty shoeboxes with gifts. This is a great hands-on service project for kids! If your kids are older, you might also consider another service opportunity this same day, Wake & Rake, 9:00 am – 12:00 pm, to rake the leaves of MBC neighbors who need an extra hand this fall.

In July-August, our missions project was Daybreak, specifically collecting offering to give towards the purchase of school supplies needed by students in Lincoln Heights. We’re excited to share with you that Kid’s Quest collected and purchased enough supplies to fill 75 backpacks! Combined with the efforts of Frontline, we collectively filled 550 backpacks. Please share this news with your children to help them grow in their understanding of giving and how God can use their offering gifts to minister to others. Pray as a family for the 550 kids who received a backpack and the Good News that Jesus wants to be their forever friend.

What is Starting Zone? October 4, 2011

Sometimes it’s hard to know where to start in helping your kids grasp the full significance of who Jesus is. That’s why Kid’s Quest offers Starting Zone, a 4-step path to equip parents to guide their children towards starting a personal relationship with Jesus that leads to children’s baptism, a celebration when kids are ready to publicly declare their decision to trust Jesus. The first step is to attend one of the Start Your Engines classes. Classes are for both parents and kids to attend together. The Gospel message is presented and parents receive next-step tools to use at home. Our age recommendation is 7 years & up but you can bring your kids whenever you feel they’re ready and you can repeat the class as many times as you like to help solidify your child’s growing faith. Classes are free but please register in advance so we can make sure we have enough materials for all participants.
Click here to hear directly from other parents about what Starting Zone has meant to their family.
The next classes are:
- Saturday, October 8, 5:30 pm in Room 1208
- Sunday, October 9, 9:30 am in Room 1208

Get Smart October 1, 2011
Posted by rshort in : 2-What We're Teaching , comments closed
This weekend, October 1/2, Elementary kids will “Get Smart” as they learn a new virtue, Knowledge: discovering someting new so you can be better at whatever you do. Our memory verse for the month comes from Luke 2:52: “And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and man.”
Help your child dig deeper by having intentional conversations at home that reinforce the lessons they’re hearing in Kid’s Quest. This month, talk about these questions as a family during meal times, driving in the car, or at bed time:
1. What is one way you have grown in your knowledge of God this year?
2. How can knowing what God says help you make wise choices?
For a final bit of fun, enjoy this Knowledge parody virtue video.
