“Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it.” Proverbs 22:6 (NIV 1984)

Mother’s Day weekend Pastor Lon delivered a powerful message to moms about being intentional, about having a biblical, Godly plan for our children’s development and then committing to the work required to actually get them there. He shared 3 things you need to plan for:

Have a plan for your kids socially, so they know how to behave in their relationships with other people.

Have a plan for your kids educationally, so God can use them to their maximum potential.

Have a plan for your kids spiritually, so they know what they believe and have tools to grow.

If you missed the message, click here to watch it now. Also enjoy this tribute video to moms that was shown in the services.

What are you doing this summer? Would you like to be part of something bigger than yourself? Something fun, exciting and important? Something with the potential to leave a lasting impression on your kids’ faith?

Spiritual growth doesn’t take a vacation. We need you to serve in Kid‘s Quest this summer to help fuel kids’ faith so they can continue their quests to become fully devoted followers of Christ. You’re not just filling in as a summer sub. You’re part of a much bigger story, God’s Story. A story of love and redemption through Jesus. A story that must be passed down from generation to generation. A story that has the best chance of being heard when we partner together to tell it. Together, we can leave a legacy of faith for our children. So we invite you to be an active participant in the story this summer. Serve a child and leave a legacy.

You probably wouldn’t believe just how many of these volunteers there are. Most go unseen, faithfully serving behind the scenes to keep Kid’s Quest running smoothly. They span every demographic…some are in school and some work full time; some are very young and some are more mature; some serve by themselves and some serve as a family; some have been at MBC for years and some are quite new…but there’s one thing they all have in common. They are all Kid’s Quest Shining Stars!

“Do everything without complaining or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a crooked and depraved generation, in which you shine like stars in the universe as you hold out the word of life—in order that I may boast on the day of Christ that I did not run or labor for nothing. But even if I am being poured out like a drink offering on the sacrifice and service coming from your faith, I am glad and rejoice with all of you. So you too should be glad and rejoice with me.” – Philippians 2:14-18

Kid’s Quest is so grateful for our Operations Team Shining Stars and all the hard work they do. If you do see some of them, please take a moment over the next few weeks to say a big thank you to them. Just a simple thank you for what they do or even a happy “Hello” goes a long way!

Enjoy a video tribute to our Operations volunteers.

We are proud to recognize high school seniors Sarah Stites, Faith Solos, Catherine Wheeler, Brian Phillips, and Sam Moore-Sobel as recipients of the AWANA Citation Award. This award is the culmination 10 years of handbook work, bible memorization, bible reading, service projects and Awana Club attendance. We congratulate Sarah, Faith, Catherine, Brian, and Sam for this achievement!

AWANA is an international, Bible-centered, children and youth ministry providing local churches with weekly clubs, programs, and training for students aged preschool through high school. Since 1950, AWANA’s goal has been to equip children, teenagers, and their families with the gospel of Christ and to train them to serve Him. One of AWANA’s hallmarks has always been scripture memory. The acronym AWANA stands for: Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed, taken from 2 Timothy 2:15 which says, “Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.”

Each week, over one million boys and girls, in more than 110 countries, attend AWANA clubs and youth programs where they play games, memorize Bible verses, and learn to apply Bible lessons to their lives. AWANA at McLean Bible Church Tysons Campus is currently on summer break but will return again in September. Watch for AWANA Registration Forms coming soon to our website at mbctysons.org/awana and information walls located throughout the MBC building.

For more information please contact our AWANA Commanders, Andrea Jensen or Joan Vistica at 703-639-2000, x1015 or awana@mcleanbible.org.
